Team,
As I reflect upon the month of November, between both Veterans Day and Thanksgiving, I am reminded of just how much we all truly have to be thankful for; regardless of where we are in life, or whatever situations we may find ourselves dealing with at the moment. I know this time of year can be difficult for many, so I wanted to take a minute to provide some encouragement.
Some people use this month to practice a daily “thing” to be thankful for and focus on it. Others practice picking three positive things at the end of each day that went well and focus on being thankful for them. Any type of positive reflection on things in our lives is good for the soul. I’m reminded of a saying that “it is impossible to be both grateful and angry at the same time”, so we should focus on gratitude.
One of my favorite verses is Philippians 4:6-7, and I believe it’s a great reminder for this time of year: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
These verses encourage us to not be anxious about the things going on in our lives, but to talk to God about them; this includes interceding for others. God already knows what’s on our hearts and minds, but he wants us to talk with Him about them. Much like when a parent knows what their child is dealing with, and the parent wants them to open up about it with them. We are also reminded to thank Him for the things that He has already done and the things He will do. The best part is the promise that if we do this, He will give us peace, which we cannot explain or understand. If you’ve never experienced that kind of peace, I encourage you to put this passage into practice; it is truly amazing. In the midst of life’s storms and trials, we can be at peace knowing that He is in control.
I pray that you all have a fantastic Thanksgiving season, and that you get to enjoy family, friends, fellowship, and good food. Thank you for all you do for BFN, and our Veteran community.
God bless,
Todd P. Svenson
